KCP Furniture & Finishing specialise in creating beautiful and functional bespoke furniture solutions that meet the needs of any and every home.
Kitchens, bookcases, cupboards, wardrobes, window seats… every project is uniquely suited to the client and their space.
Working in and around Cambridge, projects are designed in close consultation with the client, using materials and styles to suit every budget. They have a flair for making original and beautiful pieces of furniture that make the best use of even the most awkward spaces.
Kate Polak is a designer and furniture maker. She trained as a carpenter & joiner at Cambridge Regional College in 1999 and had been designing and making furniture for clients ever since. Her previous career in the film industry informs her creative and visual imagination, producing furniture that is both stunning and ingenious. As a woman working in a predominantly male industry, she brings a different approach to her work. Clients often comment that she is a good listener, responding to their requirements flexibly, without imposing ideas on them.
Ian Taft trained at the International Boatbuilding College in Lowestoft achieving City & Guilds level 1,2 & 3 in Ship joinery. Boat building requires a very high level of skill in creating furniture that will fit irregular spaces. This is very useful for the average irregularly shaped house too! He has been manufacturing high-end joinery & furniture for architects and designers since 2007. His specialisms are in woodworking, workshop production, manufacture and high end sprayed finishes. KCP Furniture and Finishing supplies sprayed joinery paint and lacquer finishes to the trade market.
Two years ago Kate and Ian decided to pool their resources and expertise to set up KCP Furniture & Finishing. They have very clear roles to match their skills, so they can create bespoke fitted furniture from design to installation as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible for their clients.
Kate visits the clients to discuss the brief, and take measurements. She then creates a design and produces drawings for the client to review.
Ian runs the workshop – manufacturing and spray-painting each piece of furniture as required. They then do the installation together to ensure that the final finish is perfect.
They also have a trusted team of fitters, plumbers and electricians to call on when required.
KCP Furniture & Finishing operates from a modern and well equipped 215 sqm workshop in Soham where they have installed a large gas heated spray booth. They have developed a design system which enables most of the construction to be done in the workshop. Each piece of furniture is made and spray-painted in the workshop. Furniture is designed in such a way that it can be taken apart for transportation and access and then reassembled on site to get a perfect finish, with only the final trimming left to be completed on site.
This system allows them to construct complex pieces in the workshop where they can control the quality and level of finish. It is an efficient way of delivering a project with minimum disruption for the client and means that they can find innovative solutions for the most awkward spaces. They also have facilities to transport fully-made larger pieces ready to install, provided there is access at the client end.
KCP Furniture and Finishing have the perfect solution for anyone with bespoke furniture needs.
